Oh well, here's my blog about music that's stuck in my head when I wake up in the mornings along with adventures of the Cash family and wacky wacky crazy wacky shenanigans. 8/10/2021
"ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE" by The Scorpions. Standard rock anthem of the 80's. Of course it's bound to get stuck in your head at some point.
This is from the 1984 record 'Love at First Sting'
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="UCxgbOBVSfM" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UCxgbOBVSfM"></iframe>
8/17/2021
"WHITE KNUCKLES" by OK Go. These guys are just great. Surprised to have this one stuck in my head but after a thorough listen, man, this is a great song.
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="nHlJODYBLKs" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nHlJODYBLKs"></iframe>
8/24/2021
"FULL CIRCLE" by Miley Cyrus. Am I a Miley Cyrus fan? I don't think I am, but she intrigues me. This one is from her first solo album, 'Breakout' from 2008. Surprised to hear this in my head. We bought this album for our oldest daughter back in 2008 when Miley Cyrus was still a little kid. I'm surprised she's still around, and so relevant. Thus, intrigued. Welcome to the blog, Miley.
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="GIFw6ysqEZ0" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GIFw6ysqEZ0"></iframe>
8/31/2021
"Burning Down the House" by The Talking Heads. It's a classic and you know it. Can you understand what he's saying in the song besides the lyric "burning down the house!?"
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="_3eC35LoF4U" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_3eC35LoF4U"></iframe>
9/7/2021
"Waiting on a Song" by Dan Auerbach. Quite unexpected it was playing in my head. Dig it though. This is the title track from Dan Auerbach's 2017 album. Good.
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="RMLqc7rXKCY" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RMLqc7rXKCY"></iframe>
9/14/2021
"A Working Day" by Ben Folds with lyrics by Nick Hornby. Some F-words. A short track, the opening track from Folds' 2010 record LONELY AVENUE. Love this track.

A surprise one morning from Adele. Proof that the right voice and the right production team make for the perfect earworm. I actually like this song "I'll Be Waiting" from her 2011 album '21'
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="h2NFIDnUBi8" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/h2NFIDnUBi8"></iframe>
6/22/2021
A surprise, and debut (on this blog) from Justin Bieber. Proof that the right voice and the right production team make for the perfect earworm. I'm more ho hum on this one, but it's got a catchy melody, obvs....
"Anyone" from the 2021 album 'Justice' which as of today (8/5/2021) as over 330 million streams on Spotify. Incredible.
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="O-1my1K79is" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/O-1my1K79is"></iframe>
6/29/2021
This is a little more obscure, from Theresa Andersson, a Swedish singer-songwriter and I dig her 2008 album 'Hummingbird, Go" This is the opening track "Na Na Na" proof that some Na Na Na's and some Swedish flare make for the perfect earworm
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="m2LB9zF_M_w" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/m2LB9zF_M_w"></iframe> (Couldn't find the audio recording on YouTube)
7/6/2021
This is from 2019, I found this song on Spotify a few years back. It's stuck with me. I dig. It's "Take My Mind" by Guards, from their 2019 record "Modern Hymns"
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="HuF2TOY5mr4" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HuF2TOY5mr4"></iframe>
7/13/2021
After blogging for nearly a decade, all the while listening frequently to Radiohead, this is only the second song I've featured here by Radiohead. It's a much better song, "15 Step" the opening track to (probably) my favoite Radio album, from 2007 'In Rainbows'
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="9bahTUVLXZw" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9bahTUVLXZw"></iframe>
7/20/2021
Here's another little gem of a song that has been buzzing around in my head the last bit. "Wordless Chorus" also an opening track to the 2005 album 'Z'
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="VYWtyJGq4vo" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VYWtyJGq4vo"></iframe>
7/27/2021
This one is from singer-songwriter Mark Mulcahy. I heard him on NPR a few years ago sing this song and it's consistently stayed part of my collection. I dig it. Here's "She Makes the World Turn Backwards" from his 2013 album 'Dear Mark J Mulcahy, I Love You'
8/3/2021
LAST ONE! WE MADE IT! Todd Snider, from his 1996 record, 'East Nashville Skyline' here's "Play a Train Song"
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="7nCLCsLEoXg" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7nCLCsLEoXg"></iframe>Bradyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11140317877231218876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5786594312827502653.post-80317874939231452182021-06-08T17:25:00.005-06:002021-06-08T17:25:33.721-06:00Getting Caught Up on More Posts- maybe I'm getting burnt out, oh well. 4/13/2021

A little Belle and Sebastian to the morning brain never did anyone harm. Let's go back to 1996 to hear this song. Enjoy!

I skipped last week because it was a duplicate-- a song I already posted about prior. I honestly think that's the first time this has happened. I don't know if that's noteworthy or not, you decide.
Today's song comes from Queen. It's the underrated opening track to their 1982 album "Hot Space" The song is called 'Staying Power' written by Freddie Mercury and introduces a new (at the time) sound that Queen had not yet presented. I dig the track. I hope you do too!

Nellie McKay really is pretty fantastic. Today's song is full fledged, no holds barred attack on men. It's ok, we deserve it, mostly.
Here's "It's a Pose" from McKay's fantastic 2004 record, "Get Away From Me"

A little bit of a surprise hearing the Mii Channel Theme Song in my head this day. This is from the main menu on the Nintento Wii, after listening to the song a few times I can see why it weaseled its way into my brain, a pretty clever little ditty of a song. Nintento has always had pretty good music in my opinion. Take a listen:

To shake things up, for 2021 I'm gonna start blogging with the song in my head on Tuesday mornings. I'm adventurous!
Martha Wainwright! What is it about her music, it doesn't feel particularly catchy, but her tunes manage to find themselves swimming around in my brain so frequently- It's strange, I really don't listen to her that much, but I will always say I think she's a great singer songwriter.
This song is called "Jesus and Mary" and it's from her fantastic 2009 record, "I Know You're Married but I Have Feelings Too" Have a listen:

Last post from the worst year ever.
"Memory" from Cats found its way into my head today. It's a goodie. I've always enjoyed the music from Cats, although I've never seen it on stage. Some people love it. I heard the movie was wretched. Didn't see it.
This is all you get today.

My Christmas post for 2020!
What makes your subconscious more happy than to play THE STROKES? at Chrismastime.
This is the final track of The Strokes 2001 album "This is it" Good stuff I guess, but not a Christmas song.

This one came out of nowhere and I had to look up where the lyric "got to get up to get down" Turns out it's George Michael, from his 1996 album "Older" here's Fastlove Pt 1.
The song is about sex. HEY DON"T BLAME ME MY SUBCONSCIOUS PICKS THE TOONZ HERE YALLS.

A happy little ditty from Belle and Sebastian. This one came out of left field for me and it took me a bit to find the song.
"Song for Sunhine" from B & S's 2006 album "The Life Pursuit" Love me some B and S.

This one comes from French duo Daft Punk. Sort of have a love/hate relationship with these guys. Love them enough to listen, hate them enough to wonder why I love them. Try to make sense of that one if you can.
It's the fourth track on their 2013 record "Random Access Memories" It's got that manipulated robot voice thingy that I don't like, but it's good melody. It's stuck in my head so it's what you get....

Out of left field, here comes one from Sting.
Enjoy!

Playing catch up.
Today's song is a delightful little ditty called "San Francisco" from a delightful little band called Foxygen. It's from their 2013 album WE ARE THE 21ST CENTURY AMBASSADORS OF PEACE AND MAGIC
I really like this song and I hope you do too!

Today's song comes from a talented singer-songwriter named Andrew Osenga. My buddy, Aaron introduced his 2012 album, LEONARD THE LONELY ASTRONAUT a few years back and it's been in my rotation ever since.
The album is a theme record, related to a man floating in space alone. From what I understand, he recorded much of the album alone in a sound studio built to look like an empty spaceship. It does have a lonely, longing feeling, the entire record. It's a great listen.
Today's song is titled Firstborn Son, which has the theme of religious meaning and maybe pressure put upon children. Listen and decide for yourself. A pretty obscure song, from an underappreciated artist:

and here's a video of Mr Osenga explaining the concept of this record:

"The Moment I Wake Up" is how this classic song starts. So natually it would find its way into my head in the morning. "I Say a Little Prayer" was initially written by Burt Bacharach for Dionne Warwick, but made famous by Aretha Franklin.
Enjoy the song stuck in my head:

I'm playing catchup again and I have more children's music in my head.
This one is from beloved (by my family from childhood) Peter Alsop. The fun part of this song was when my son and I were driving around with our dog while listening to this song. In the middle, Peter Alsop and the kids start howling like dogs. My dog howled right along with them! We had a good laugh over it.
Here's what my dog looks like.

Here's the song for you, listen with your kids- They'll love it.

I've been revisiting They Might Be Giants' kids music with my son recently, so naturally this song by TMBG would play in my head, right?
This is "D & W" a song which not only anthropormorphises alphabet letters, but gives them complex emotions and depth. I really love the bizarre things TMBG does!
Enjoy

The Cranberries make their debut on thesongsstuckinmyhead.blogspot.com!!!! I suppose this oldie (goodie) weaseled its way into my brain because I've been playing Plants vs Zombies Heroes on my phone way too much- Much to the dismay of my wife!
ANyway, this is a great song. I remember how hard it hit me the first time I heard it, which was in high school LDS seminary my Sophmore year. My buddy Andrew played the song for me after class on the loudspeaker somehow. It seems like the teacher let him, but I don't remember. LONG TIME AGO, right Waandy?
Here's the song, good good good.

Here's one of my favorites from Rufus Wainwright's 2004 masterpiece record, "Want One"
Dinner at Eight is the final track of the album and it's about Rufus' dad, Loudon Wainwright, also a successful singer-songwriter. I went to see Rufus play a show in Vegas in 2005, and during that show he mentioned that he had been invited to a photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine along with his dad. When the shoot was over Rufus said something like "well are you so glad that I got you in that magazine again?" and it turned into a nasty fight between he and his dad.
"Why is it so, that I've always been the one who must go
That I've always been the one to want to flee
When in fact you were the one, long ago
In the drifting white snow, who left me"
I admire and respect the Wainwright family, not only for their artistry but for their honesty in song-writing. Rufus' parents divorced when he was young. I'm sure these lyrics sting like hell for his dad. Or even worse, the song that sister Martha Wainwright wrote about her dad titled "Bloody Mother F***** A*******" Honest and painful for their family, but makes for some good art.

Excited to share this one today. This is from an odd little musical duo called The Duckworth Lewis Method, which consists of Neil Hannon from The Divine Comedy (one of my favorites) and Thomas Walsh of Pugwash (I've yet to hear one of their albums but I've heard they're great) Both Irishmen, these two musicians formed TDLM to create an album about Cricket (the sport, not the bug lolololol) The band has released two records, a self-titled 2009 album and a follow up from 2013 (which I've yet to hear) Anyway, today's song is called "Flatten the Hay" Thomas Walsh takes lead vocals and the song is about a longing for playing Cricket in his youth. This is a funny, but good record. <br><br>I hope you enjoy the song here's what it sounds like:<br><br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="aX0gIXpJmC8" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aX0gIXpJmC8"></iframe></div> I think you are really neat and I thank you, as always, for reading my blog.
