Weather With You

1/27/19

Here's the story behind this one:

I worked at Wendy's all through High School and into my first year of college.   It was a good first job for me.  I worked hard and I worked a lot of hours.  Earned good money for my age and learned a lot about being a good employee.

Lots of times I would work late, sometimes until 2 in the morning closing up the place for the night, which included lots of cleaning.

Sometimes we would wait in the lobby for someone to finish up their cleaning.  Such was the case one late night-- I remember distinctly all the chairs in the lobby sitting upside-down on the tables as I waited with the other employees and my manager, Bob (Who was a great boss and has been a wonderful reference for me as I've applied for various jobs over the years, but I digress)

ANYWAY, we were sitting waiting in the lobby, maybe 4 or 5 of us and generic pop music was playing over the lobby speakers.  One song in particular was playing and I'll never forget Bob saying "This is a horrible song."  I remember it sounded repetitive, and Bob was a musician himself so I took what he had to say about the song at his word.

♫Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you ♫

The melody has been embedded in my brain ever since.

Well- it finally stuck in my head and now I'm blogging about it.

At the time (probably 1996 or 97) I thought the song was some sort of generic 70's hit from a washed out hippie band.  But because of my blog, I've just now learned that the song is in fact from 1991 by an Australian band called Crowded House.

Listening to the complete song, and not just the chorus like I remember from that night (and consequently have heard a handful of times over the years, mostly in public places on speakers) I find that I don't hate the song.  It's not a "horrible song" as Bob lamented years ago.  The song is perfectly fine, even though the chorus does kind of have a repetitive and sort of generic sound.

Here's "Weather With You" by Crowded House, from their 1991 album WOODFACE.

Have a listen:

Neat neat neat.
