Today's post is from that rascal of a singer-songwriter named Cheryl Crow. She's actually pretty great from what I've heard but I've only ever been exposed to her songs on the radio.

One time I went to go see David Byrne open for her and after he was done with his set, I left. Probably should have stayed but I drove a long time to go see the concert and it was an outdoor venue. Have I told this story, well, here goes...
It was 2004, I believe. My buddy Dave and I were WAY into David Byrne's music at the time because his recordings had some really cool string music on them. If you want to hear what I'm talking about, check out his 2001 and 2004 solo records, both are great.
We were anxious to see him tour with these strings but the closest concert was a 6 hour drive to Aspen Colorado. Luckily, I was young and FREEE and so Dave bought tickets for us online months in advanced and we planned a little day trip.
We arrived and soon discovered that we needed to shuttle into the venue from a parking lot. Which we did. Upon arrival, we were escorted to the will call table which was stupidly located inside the front gates. We sat at the will call table while 3 or 4 volunteer employees shuffled around trying to find the tickets Dave had purchased months prior on the internet.
Long story short, the tickets were nowhere to be found.... so we had to buy them again. BUT! Both Dave and I had left our wallets in the car, who knows why... so-- that meant we had to shuttle back out to get some money to buy tickets. We were pissed.
BUT. As we were leaving guess what those bozo volunteer employees did?!?!? THEY GAVE US WRISTBANDS. Dave and I turned right around and walked right back in. And we never got charged for ANY tickets. As poor college students this was fantastic, even if it was a little dishonest :\ One day when I'm rich I'll find out who put together this concert and donate to them or something.
Welp, the bad news is that it was raining like MAD that day. We ended up spending money on slickers to keep us dry... but they didn't even do much. It was pouring. Raining so badly that when it came time for David Byrne to play his set, they chose to not bring the string quartet to the stage with him. He played a solo show, just him and a guitar. It was disappointing to say the least, even though DB is great no matter what.
But I digress, this post is about Cheryl Crow! So when DB was done and Cheryl Crow prepared to start her set, Dave and I left and drove 6 hours home, agreeing that it was only worth the drive for the story of beating the system and getting into a concert for free.
