Lost Coastlines

5/11/20

Hi Wandy,

I hope today's post finds you well... I'm blogging today about a band called Okkervil River.  Have you heard of them?  I'll bet you haven't.

They are good.

Monday morning I woke up with a melody in my head and I knew it was one of their songs, however I didn't know which one!!!

So I started looking through their discography to try to find the song and I couldn't do it!  What was I to do?!?

Then, I went to the band's main page on Spotify to see what some of their top songs are and, sure enough, today's was #1 on this list!  Okkervil River's most streamed song on Spotify, and since it was ringing around in my hear, likely their most catchy.

It's called "Lost Coastlines" and it's from their 2008 record The Stand Ins.

If you're thinking of trying this band out, I can't recommend their album Black Sheep Boy enough.  It's kind of a little masterpiece.

Their lead singer gets a little pitchy sometimes, but generally he's putting out pretty dang good music and lyrics.

Here's today's song, I hope you likey!  They even have a music video to go along with it.

I think the song is about finding your place while feeling lost?!?  I dunno.  Hugs

It's Not Dark Up Here

I think that even though I love his solo work, this is maybe the only second post I've made featuring David Byrne's solo work.

And it came out of nowhere since I haven't listened to a new album of his in probably 15 years.

I think this song ended up on my Shazaam tracks after hearing it on KRCL, Salt Lake's independent radio station.  The song is good and quintessential David Byrne.  I think he's got some show on Broadway right now featuring this song, maybe??? I'm too lazy to look it up.

Here's "It's Not Dark Up Here" from Byrne's 2018 album AMERICAN UTOPIA.

Dig it.
