Stumblin' Home Winter Blues

This song is by my boyfriend Ben Folds and his band Ben Folds Five.

I hope you like it.  Here's 'Stumblin Home Winter Blues" which is written by Darren Jesse who is the drummer of the band.  The song was featured on a 3 disc greatest hits album by Mr Folds and was one of a few new tracks on the album.  It's a great song and I hope you like it.

Iowa Stubborn

I'm currently in a production of The Music Man.  Holy moly this music is good and catchy.

Here's the song for today, Iowa Stubborn.  I love this show so much.

I lubb you.

Precious Things

Post from 10-26-16

The following is an incomplete blog post that was never finished because my wife is super busy and waayy too cool for this blog.

Hi friends.  This is Megan, Brady's wife.  I'll be doing his blog post today since the song stuck in his head was introduced to him by myself and I happen to be a huge fan of this artist.  It's Tori Amos singing "Precious Things."  A really dark song with a ton of emotion that she expertly shows through rhythm, dynamics and text.

I became obsessed with Tori at the age of 16 because I was the typical self absorbed, insecure, fat kid who oh so desperately needed to emote. Fun huh?  Tori and I sang together, cried together and I released all those crazy hormones while her piano keys became my own personal sound track of life.

Luckily I made it through teen-hood and am now a fairly well adjusted adult...but I still love Tori and always will.  Another reason for this is the piano.

Ok, this is the complete opposite of Tori, but I had to share that song because Judy Garland rocks and the song, by Irving Berlin, is a classic.

Back to Tori....the song "Precious Things" is about

Brady here again, Megan stopped at this point.  Going forward the rest will be by me..... sorry....

Obviously Tori Amos got stuck in my head.  The song is good and it's hard, dangerous, edgy and what made Tori Amos the queen of 90's piano rock.  I find it mostly about a dangerous and insecure girl finding herself not fitting and wanting to belong while resenting everything around her.

Be forewarned that this song has some strong language.

Here's "Precious Things" by Tori Amos, from her 1992 debut album LITTLE EARTHQUAKES.

I've amassed enough songs to make another compilation disc- I'll be doing something about that soon, like a contest or something.

All I Want

This is a good one, from probably one of the most underrated bands out there, Toad The Wet Sprocket.

This is their 1992 hit, All I Want.

I first heard this song back in 1992.  Jay Leno had just taken over for Johnny Carson and 'Toad' played it.  I was staying with my grandparents and I'll never forget how instantly I fell in love with the song, it just had a good vibe to it all.

I'm gonna see if the magic of the inter webs can help me find the same clip from the tonight show, please hold...........

The interwebs didn't disappoint!   Such a great song and fun memory for me.

On the Bound

This sort of song is what happens when you get a rad production team, decent lyrics/songwriting, and an angry chick with a piano.

Here's Fiona Apple's "On the Bound" which is the opening track of her 1999 album "When the Pawn...." (fun fact, this album title is a poem that Apple herself wrote:  When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might so When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.)

I first heard this song when I saw a used disc of the album back in 2001.  I was curious and thought I'd give it a listen.  It only took 3 minutes and I instantly bought the record, which has gotten years of listening by both me and my wife.

Yeah, here's the song y'alls.
