Blogs are so passe and pretentious. Oh well, here's my blog about music that's stuck in my head when I wake up in the mornings along with adventures of the Cash family and wacky wacky crazy wacky shenanigans.

Jesus and Mary
1/5/2021
To shake things up, for 2021 I'm gonna start blogging with the song in my head on Tuesday mornings. I'm adventurous!
Martha Wainwright! What is it about her music, it doesn't feel particularly catchy, but her tunes manage to find themselves swimming around in my brain so frequently- It's strange, I really don't listen to her that much, but I will always say I think she's a great singer songwriter.
This song is called "Jesus and Mary" and it's from her fantastic 2009 record, "I Know You're Married but I Have Feelings Too" Have a listen:
Didja like it?

When The Day is Short
7/13/20
Martha Wainwright makes so many visits to my blog. I really like her but my subconscious LOVES her.
This is from her self-titled album from 2005- which is just a dang good and dang sad album.
Today's song "When The Day is Short" is probably the second saddest song on the record next to the f-bomb filled tirade of her song dedicated to her dad.
Here's the song, enjoy:

Radio Star
6/3/18
Some time ago I shared a song by Martha Wainwright called "Hearts Club Band" a song which I still listen to frequently, because, by golly, it's good- also it's her own song, not a cover of The Beatles' classic.
The song stuck in my head, also by Wainwright, is called "Radio Star" and is a song of her own as well, not a cover of the Buggles' 1979 classic (Video Killed) the Radio Star.
I really dig this song- take a listen, I love the way Wainwright structures this song and the way her raspy vocals wail throughout- I find her to be a tremendous talent-- see if you agree.
I love music and I love you.

Proserpina
This song is new to me. I've blogged about Martha Wainwright before. I don't know what it is about her music. I just find her approach so refreshing. Her voice is raspy. Her music is sincere.
Anyway, what's cool about this song is that her mother, musician Kate McGarrigle wrote it before dying a few years ago. In that same period, Martha herself was becoming a mother for the first time. In that realm, she felt it was important to cover the song on her latest album.
Honestly, I just haven't had the time to delve too much into what this song is about. My daughter is an expert in Greek Mythology. I was told that Proserpina is the Roman equivalent to Persephone, who is the Goddess of Spring. I find the melody and arrangement of this song both beautiful and haunting. Knowing that it was a great musician's last song makes it even cooler. I'm happy that Martha Wainwright was able to share this piece of art with the world. Forgive me for having little other to say about it, I'll let the song speak for itself.

Coming Tonight
We have a problem at thesongsstuckinmyhead.blogspot.com. Our team of scientists are working day and night to resolve it, and hopefully we'll have a solution soon.
For now, the bewitching raspy voice and mopey songs of Martha Wainwright are still working their magic on my fragile subconscious. This is the 3rd song of hers I've written about, a record for me (she was playing in my head yesterday too.) Yet, as I listen to these songs, I find that really they are quite good! For example, listen to today's song, "Coming Tonight"
We're trying to find it in our budget to hire a neurologist, psychologist and someone who can provide the best shock therapy possible- but this is impossible if we can't get more people reading my blog. Please for the sake of everybody's sanity, share this blog with your friends!
Or, for the love, somebody suggest some new music I should start listening to!
In an unrelated note, I've decided to no longer eat out and I'm craving KFC like something fierce.

Hearts Club Band
Yo, guess who's back to share music with us? Our good ol pal Martha Wainwright. This time she's singing a song called "Hearts Club Band."
Here it is friends:
I've tried to wrap my mind around what this song's about, but I'm having little luck. If anyone's feeling enlighted, feel free to share.
But since the song was somehow inspired by the real "Hearts Club Band," I feel like posting a picture of people that inpire me:

I'd like to thank the fabulous 4 (my kids) my mom, my mom-in-law, my hot wife, Joseph who made this all possible and some other famous people who inspire me every day.
I've also contacted the winners from my blog contest. Congratulations to Molly, Chelsea, Celia and Joe. Thanks for playing!
PS- I'm gonna try to perform the next song stuck in my head from Monday morning with my wife and maybe some other special guests. Stay tuned y'all.....
Bleeding All Over You
Today I had a song playing by Martha Wainwright. She comes from a famous musical family and having been a fan of her father Loudon Wainwright III and especially her brother, Rufus Wainwright, I've tried to like her music too.
And that's not to say that I don't like her music, I've bought both of her albums, I just don't think she speaks to me the way other members of her family have. I can't imagine the pressure of wanting to start out on your own as an artist when your family is already famous.
Martha is raspy voiced and deeply confessional as a musician. Poor Martha has found herself in love with a man who is married in this song. I could only find live performances, I prefer studio recordings, but this one is pretty good:
I don't claim to be an authority on anything, but I have been told that nothing good comes from getting involved with a married man. Case in point, Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction
Or Drew Barrymore in Poison Ivy

Or even worse Betty Rubble and Fred Flintsone.
OK, so that one never happened, but imagine if it had! Be careful Martha Wainwright!
