Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas errybody.

You know today's song, but how much do you know ABOUT it?

"Feliz Navidad" was written by Puerto Rican musician Jose Feliciano in 1970.

Here's his version of the Latin Christmas classic (did you know it was only 46 years old?)

If you were smart like Jose Feliciano, you would have written this song too.  According to celebrity net worth website, Feliciano is with 6.5 million dollars- most of which he earned from this Christmas song.

Feliz Navidad y'alls.

Spaceman

Sugar

Hey you, my-blog-reading buds    I really love this blog and I'm sorry that what was already a medocre blog has become even more sub-par.

Today's song is one of those that I'm hearing everywhere these days...
Here's "Sugar" by Maroon 5    The Song Stuck in my Head today

Baby Got Back

Hi there its Lucy Brady's kid,my dad told me to write this blog post and it is the song Baby Got Back.My dad says I can not listen to the rest of the song because it is naughty.I think this song is gross and weird. My dad goes around the house whistling it and I say OK. I feel that this song is not supposed to be introduced to little kids like me. It is naughty and bad for children to listen to. I am mad at my dad for letting me listen to the first part of it,so enjoy!

OH, I was supposed to tell you that this song is by Sir Mix a lot.   It's from the year 1992.

Life is Real (Song For Lennon)

While they certainly have gotten plenty of attention over the years, I can't express enough how highly underrated I feel the band Queen is.

Today's song comes from their 1982 album "Hot Space."   Penned by Freddie Mercury, the song is called "Life is Real" and is dedicated to John Lennon, who was murdered on December 8th 1980.

This is going to be totally lazy of me, but here's what Wikipedia has to say about the song:

Mercury wrote "Life Is Real" as a tribute to John Lennon, whose murder in 1980 had also previously prompted the band to perform his song "Imagine" on tour. Like Lennon's songs, "Life Is Real" features a sparse piano-based arrangement and a melancholy tone. It is also one of the few Mercury songs whose lyrics were written before the music ("Killer Queen" being another). The title may be a reference to the lyric 'love is real', from Lennon's 1970 song "Love", or the line 'nothing is real', from The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever". It begins with three bell-like piano notes, meant to recall the opening bells in Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over", and "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)". Also, the first two words, 'Guilt stains...' are virtually identical interval-wise (though in a different key) to Lennon's first two notes in his song, "Mother".

Who knows if all this jazz ^ was coincidental or intentional in Mercury's songwriting.

Anyways, here's the song:

Did you like that?  I hope so.

Fun fact, I caught a rare Pokemon and named him Lennon.  It's a ditto and apparently is super rare.

Hugs.

The Secret of Mana Soundtrack: Into the Thick of It

This morning I got a rude awakening from this adorable kid-

"Dad!  Come play 'Secret of Mana' with me!"

Like the grouchy old guy that I am, I rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.  But this melody from this 1993 classic Super Nintendo game weaseled its way into my head.

Thank you internet, for informing me that this song is called "Into the Thick of It"

Did you ever play this game?  It's super fun.  Highly recommend.

Hope you enjoyed today's Earworm and maybe trip down memory lane.

Tha Crossroads

This is a song I've had stuck in my head for year in spite of limited listens.  R&B/Rap/Hip Hop super-group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony emerged in the early 90's after having been discovered by Eazy-E.  After his untimely death, they wrote and dedicated this song (which was a worldwide hit in 1996.)

Here's "Tha Crossroads" which I'll never forget watching on M-TV waaaay too many times.  I'll never forget this strange (to me) song, it's unforgettable music video and waaaaaaay too many 16th notes in the melody (rap?)

Nothing makes me feel more white than having to blog about this song.  Here it is yo.

If I weren't now half-assed in my blogging efforts, I would elaborate more, but alas, this is all you'll hear from me.  I hope this post made you laugh, cry and go "hmmm"

A Little Respect

Erasure!

Here's the 1988 hit "A Little Respect"

Good times, good times indeed.

Last week's post should hopefully be up soon too.

LOVE YOU ALL!

Tell Me Why

This is my 300th blog post.  Incredible.  If I put this much effort into anything useful, maybe I would be somebody important!

To commemorate my 300th post on this goofy site, I'm going to give you a mediocre post on an excellent song.

This gem comes from The Beatles' 1964 classic album "A Hard Days Night."  It's the 6th track.  It's called "Tell Me Why."  You likely know the song, but here it is for your listening pleasure.

Baby, Do You Feel Me?

It's the opening track on his 1998 album, Tourism.  It features vocals from Teena Marie.  She's dead now.  But this is what she looked like:

This one's pretty dang random on an already pretty dang random blog.

It's from American producer, DJ, remixer and (I think?) occasional songwriter, Danny Tenaglia.

The song, you may have surmised based on the blog title, is called "Baby, Do You Feel Me?"

And this is what Danny Tenaglia looks like, in case you wondered.  Oh, he's still alive.

This particular song ended up in my head because I've been trying to branch out, listen to new genres and explore music which I wouldn't normally enjoy.  I've decided as a music lover I owe it to myself to be a little better versed.  This is dance music- definitely not that kind to which I normally listen.

Here's the song y'alls.  I LUBB YOU!

Peter and the Wolf (Wolf Theme)

Did any of you watch 'Peter and the Wolf' by Disney as a kid?

I loved this classic cartoon from 1946.  The original cartoon is tough to find, but for some odd reason I found a version narrated by David Bowie.  Who knows why, and who knows how long it will be up, so enjoy it while you can here.  I'm sure Di$ney doesn't love this being up free to watch:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmbg64_david-bowie-narrates-disneys-peter-and-the-wolf_music

The music is what makes this short film so great.  It's by Russian (Soviet?) composer Sergei Prokofiev and was commissioned in 1936 by the Soviet Union as a way to teach small children about various instruments in an orchestra.

Today' the menacing theme of The Wolf (composed of French Horns) was stuck in my head.  Totally random and unexpected, but a great tune.  Here it is if you're curious:

Another familiar place you may find this tune is in this classic scene from A Christmas Carol, featuring bully Scut Farkas (Farkas I learned means "Wolf" in Hungarian, thanks Wikipedia!!!)

I'm sure these videos I'm posting will not be here long due to copywriting.  Enjoy them while you can!

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Digimon Theme

When you're a parent to young children,  these are the things that happen to you.

I present to you, today, the theme song to Digimon, the wannabe Pokémon cartoon that my son loves and watches way too much.

Manic Monday

I've become pretty compulsive about the way my blog posts are solely dedicated to the random songs that play in my head on Sunday mornings.  Yesterday, something rare happened.  I had an original tune in my head (I believe it originated in my own mind, either that or it's an existing tune that I couldn't remember, whatever it was it was a lousy tune and I can't remember it now, and this parenthesis is super long) and so I couldn't make an authentic post yesterday.

I thought I skip a week, but when I woke up on Monday morning with this familiar song (dedicated to Mondays!) by the Bangles stuck in my head, it felt OK to post.

This one should take you back, here's Manic Monday by The Bangles, enjoy!

Say Aha

If you like rad music by rad people, here's "Say Aha" by Santigold.   Enjoy the song stuck in my head.

Have a good week errybody

The Coming Up Roses

Today's song came as a HUGE surprise, it's from a fantastic (and relatively unknown) band called Rodeo Ruby Love.  This is "The Coming Up Roses" which is the 6th track on their 2010 album "THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

Before I show you the song, let me tell you what's great about this track:

Lots of things.

First and foremost though is that it's not a typical pop song by any means.  It's a little 'all over the place' and presents several different ideas as it progresses.  But the best part, for me is when the band comes in singing in unison (think 'Carry That Weight' by the Beatles)

Most of us had hit rock bottom
before we chose to acknowledge the effort that goes in.
Most of us were strapped for meaning,
so we stood up and started swinging and landed a good shot on the chin.
Most of us were riding shotgun
1970 Plymouth Valiant to Carmel and back again

I don't know what it is about this song, just the energy of it all and the band members singing in unison, it's just rad.

Guess what!?!?  Today's song gives me enough music to have filled another compilation disc, NOW THAT'S WHAT BRADY'S SUBCONSCIOUS CALLS MUSIC! VOLUME 3.

You could win this disc.  I don't want to make a big deal about this, but just leave a comment here and I'll send you a copy of this disc along with some other surprises.  Seriously, just make a comment.  I dare you!

(If I happen to not know you, maybe leave a way I can contact you, email or phone number or address or something.  If you aren't comfortable doing that you can email me cashbrady@gmail.com)
And now the sad part, where we say goodbye to each other.

Technologic

Don't ask me how this one happened.  It's a long story and I don't have the time.

Here's "Technologic" by French duo, Daft Punk.  I hope the creepy little robot with headgear doesn't creep you out too much.

Scared much?  Sorry about this one.

Let It Happen

Once in awhile I get to blog about a song here and I get super excited to do it.

Today is one of those days.

This song comes from Australian band, Tame Impala.  From the first song I ever heard from this band, I was hooked- check them out.

Today's song is from their latest album, 2015's "Currents."  It's the opening track and it's almost time to listen to it:

But before you do, let me encourage you to listen to the whole song, it's almost 8 minutes long, but it takes a journey that it fantastic.  The whole album is about making waves, as even indicated by the cool, but simple album artwork.

"It's always around me, all this noise" Kevin Parker sings as he delves into the deep things in his mind that he's been suppressing and has been dying to let out.

"Let is happen" he demands of himself "An ocean growing inside" whether he's talking about his artistry, or something else, I'm sure we know what it's like to fight urges and to hold something inside.

Then something occurs midway through this electronic track, as the music sort of glitches and loses control, like a skipping record.  Then lyrically it shifts and he continues through a now manipulated and almost haunting voice repeating over and over:

"I will not vanish and you will not scare me
Try to get through it, try to bounce to it
All the while thinking I might as well do it
They be lovin' someone and I'm not that stupid
Take the next ticket to take the next train
Why would I do it? And you wanna think that"

and then a counter-melody:

"Oh, maybe I was ready all along
Oh, maybe I was ready all along
Oh, maybe all I wanted was the sound
Oh but maybe I was ready all along"

Wow, I love it.

Farts.  (I wrote that because technically this is a humor blog, but I don't want you to think I've gotten too serious)

Te Estoy Buscando

Do yourself a favor and listen to this rad song by rad band, Ozomatli.

It's in Spanish, Ustedes!

This song "Te Estoy Buscando" is about somebody searching for somebody else.  In fact, "Te Estoy Buscando" means, "I'm Looking for You!"

Ozomatli's origins are from Chile (if I remember right) but they formed as a band in East L.A.  Their sound is a fusion between Latin/Hip Hop and Rap.  I LOVE THIS BAND.  If you get the chance to see them live, you'll be highly entertained by their energy and their versatility as a group.  Plus there are like 12 members of the band and watching them is fun.

Today's song ^ comes from the band's 2004 album "Street Signs" and is the album's sixth track.  Check it out (the album, truly it's good.)

Amo la musica y amo tambien tu!  Abrazos!

Sounds Like Hallelujah

I'm calling today's blog post a 'blah'g post because I don't feel like blogging.

Anyway, here's the song that was stuck in my head.  Blah.

It's from the wonderfully gr8 band The Head and the Heart.  It's the penultimate track on their neat self-titled 2011 album.

Blah.

The song is called "Sounds Like Hallelujah"  Blahg.

Maybe if you liked the song this blahg post was good and not just blah.

Battiti di Ali di Farfalla

Today's song comes from Jovanotti, who is an Italian singer-songwriter whose real name is Lorenzo Cherubini.

It took me a long time to figure out what this song was.  All I could hear in my head was "Put your hands up!" (Bang bang bang)  I thought it was a song about police shooting at somebody or something.  I didn't think that it may be in another language until it hit me that I had this hip-hoppy sounding Italian dood in my collection.  Then I figured out that it was "Ding ding ding" instead of "bang bang bang" and I found the song.

In years past I've sort of scoffed at rap as if it's not a real hard thing to do.  Have you ever tried it though?  It's totally hard and you have to be hard-core to be good at it.

Rapping in Italian, with all those syllables is even harder!

Here's today's song, "Battiti di Ali di Farfalla" from Jovanotti.  It's about boxing.  If I had more time, I'd write more, but I don't.

Enjoy.

Pretentious

You guys!  You probably know that I usually write posts on Sundays.  Well guess what?  I didn't have time yesterday and so I'm doing it today.

And I had two songs to write about so it was what I normally call "Two For One Sundee Fundee" but since I'm writing a day late this will be:

Blog blog blog blog blog blog blog.  Blog blog
blog.

Here's song number one, when I first woke up:

This is from Bibio- the second track on the 2011 album "Mind Bokeh"  If you have photographer friends they can tell you what Bokeh means.

So, I dig this track, it starts out extremely atonal and dissonant and then sort of turns less "that way" as it goes and then back to more atonal stuff.  Whatever.  I just like it OK?   You didn't listen to it did you?

Blog blog blog here's another song.

Blog blog blog that happened later on after I woke up again (I went back to sleep)

It's from the hilarious movie "A Mighty Wind."

This movie is funny and good.
