Blogs are so passe and pretentious. Oh well, here's my blog about music that's stuck in my head when I wake up in the mornings along with adventures of the Cash family and wacky wacky crazy wacky shenanigans.
I bet you bin dyin' ta know witch song wuz stuck in me head this week?
Are you dying??!?
You'd think it may be something from Reinhold Messner since that concert we did was a year ago, but sadly, such was not the case. But I did give that record a good listen on Saturday. Man. I love it.
But fret not, something great is coming......
The other day I was just messing around with the kids, singing about quarantine and I started singing a couple lines of parody to this song. "Sta-ay apart" instead of come together. It was so great. Move on over weird Al!
He got facemask
He got, ly-ysol
He got, grumpy children
He got, Tylenol
Stay-ay apart! Right now! Quarantine!
Anyway....
Is there a better opening track to any album of all time? I love this song. I love Abbey Road. I love the Beatles. I love the way the bass, drum and Lennon sing/whispering "shoot me" just pound with coolness as this opens.
I'm completely immersed right now in this production of Forever Plaid. I'm having a great time doing it even if it's such a big time commitment.
If you've seen 'Plaid' there are many funny moments, and one in particular that I find quite hilarious and inspired the song stuck in my head for 1/7/2018 (in what has now become the 6TH year of my blogging)
In the show, The Plaids talk about how they started singing music for a "whole new generation" (referring to the 60s) which leads into a cheesy arrangement of The Beatles "She Loves You" which reeks of 1950's fluff. It's one of my favorite moments in the script and it's also very fun to perform.
Anyway, the dang song was stuck in my head. Here's the Beatles' version:
This is my 300th blog post. Incredible. If I put this much effort into anything useful, maybe I would be somebody important!
To commemorate my 300th post on this goofy site, I'm going to give you a mediocre post on an excellent song.
This gem comes from The Beatles' 1964 classic album "A Hard Days Night." It's the 6th track. It's called "Tell Me Why." You likely know the song, but here it is for your listening pleasure.
Today's song comes from a little group you may have heard of. They are called "The Beatles"
This is "Eight Days a Week" from their 1964 album "Beatles For Sale"
Mathematically, eight days a week is impossible, but I haven't written off this song just yet.
Alright, I'm going to give away some music you guys!
Some lucky person will win four prizes and here they are.....
PRIZE#1- "The Songs Stuck in Brady's Head, Volume 8"
This is the 8th compilation of music I've put together of songs I've blogged about here. It's pretty good. I'd give it maybe a four out of ten.
PRIZE#2- "The Songs Stuck in Brady's Head, Musicals!"
Over the 2 and a half (yeesh!) years I've been doing this blog, I've assembled enough songs to fill a best of musicals disc. This is the first time this has happened so it's a real treat for those who love showtunes! Also, I'm just now noticing the huge zit on my forehead.
PRIZE#3- A 25$ gift card to iTunes!
This card will enable you to buy two and a half albums or about 25 songs. (If you're ever thinking of buying me a gift, iTunes gift cards are my most favorite thing. My birthday is March 22nd in case you don't know already)
PRIZE#4- A Random CD from my dusty old case of compact discs!
This has been a hit in the past here and it's been a few years since we've dug into the ginormous case of CD's I used to lug around before I upgraded the beast for an iPod. Here's how it works.... there are 280 discs in this case. All you do is pick a number between one and two-hundred-eighty and whichever number you pick is the disc you win! Can you find a diamond in the rough? Only if luck is on your side.
So..... here's how my contests work: To win, you have to either comment directly on this blog post, or comment on the link I'll share on my Facebook page- The Songs Stuck in my Head. In your comment, remember to pick a number between 1 and 280. I will then draw a name and mail the prizes to you.
I hope to spread all kinds of joy to the world through the magic of music.
The winner will be announced.... oh I don't know. Friday? does Friday sound good? OK, Friday it is- The 15th of August. Mark your calendar.
IT'S FOUR FOR ONE SUNDAY FUN DAY YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's get right to it, yo.
First of all, I'm on vacation. I'm in Del Ray, California and it's just really neat here you guys!
We've crowded into a hotel room together and I didn't sleep very well. Neither did wifey poo, who claims that I was snoring and so was our 10 year old son. We were totally having a subconscious battle for who could snore the loudest.
Anyway, I did wake up a lot during the night. The first song playing in my brain was one we parodied (my family and my in-laws) at my Grandfather-in-law's 85th birthday party last night. It's "Ain't She Sweet" which is performed by The Beatles, but written by Milton Anger and Jack Yellen in 1927. Here's the version I'm familiar with:
Ok, next is the song that immediately followed in my head afterward. The melody to this song sounds so similar to "Ain't She Sweet" that it stuck in my head as well. It's the verse of the song and the way it resolves, it sounds really similar to "Ain't She Sweet" in my head. Here's "Traffic Light" by The Ting Tings.
Next, when I woke up later to make pee pee, this great song that is new to me (thanks to a whole slew of new music that was introduced to me by a new friend) was playing. I really like this song, here's "Whatever it Takes" by Ron Sexsmith.
And lastly, the song to which I awoke this morning- which as you know is the formula we follow here at thesongsstuckinmyhead.blogspot.com, LLC. I over shared today with other songs because this song is from "Children of Eden" which I already talked about two blog posts ago. If I weren't lazy and on vacation I'd link you up to the post from two weeks ago, but you probably don't care anyway, no offense to me.
Anyway, the song as I awoke is called "Perfect" and it's about Adam and Eve as they live day to day in the garden of Eden. Have a listen:
Did you have as much fun as I did on FOUR FOR ONE SUNDAY FUN DAY? It was sure neat. We made some great memories today.
Don't be deceived by the title. This is not a song by Madonna, but rather a song by The Beatles.
What a great song it is too. Go Beatles go. Such a shame there isn't any more music for this group to produce.
And with today's song, I have enough music for another compilation disc which, as you know, I like to give away right here on my blog along with other "valuable" prizes.
So...... here we go friends.
PRIZE NUMBER 1
The best of the songs stuck in Brady's head volume 6- 19 songs I've blogged about since about Thanksgiving on. Not only does this compilation have good music, it also represents music from the 60's, 70's 80's, 90's, 2000's and 2010's. Your ears will be happy and it will be like you're having a history lesson in music. Good stuff indeed.
PRIZE NUMBER 2
Ellis Peters' classic novel "A Morbid Taste For Bones" on cassette tape! Described as "A Medieval Whodunnit" this book on tape is ideal if you're lucky enough to have hours and hours to kill and if you're lucky enough to run into a cassette tape player while killing time.
And best yet, this classic is read by Glyn Houston. (If you have to google search this person, shame on you. Shame.)
PRIZE NUMBER 3
Do you love mediocre music performed by twins with beautiful long flowing blonde hair? Well Nelson should fill your needs indeed! Nelson's classic 1990 album "After The Rain" only here on thesongsstuckinmyhead.blogspot.com
PRIZE NUMBER 4
This is my most proud moment of generosity. Yes, friends, you could be the lucky owner of this glass encased scorpion, 7 inches in length! Impress your friends and family with fake stories about how you captured this beast in the jungles of Siberia just before it attacked you. Don't tell them the truth, that it really came from Hy and Mike's Pawn shop (for 5 bucks) on 35th south.
What's saddest about this scorpion is that it looks like it's been placed in there with an asbestos background. For all I know he died from asbestos poisoning. :(
Check out the sharpie pen I've placed on the 2nd picture to give you a perspective on how big this mofo is.
OK, here's the thing people. THESE ARE SOME GENUINELY AWESOME PRIZES! Seriously, you would be so lucky to win them.
All you need to do is comment on this blog post. Say anything. If you need some ideas, talk about corn dogs, or maybe Milli Vanilli, or maybe something deep like existentialism and stuff. Just make a comment, it's just that easy!
And just for funzies, I'll enter you in this drawing twice if you can prove to me that you've shared this link with your friends through Facebook, Twitter, or poor Google Plus.
Here's the other thing. I know a lot of you come and look at my blog, but few of you enter these contests. Come on! Have some fun and enter! The way I see it there are 5 things that may be holding you back from entering.
1- You are embarrassed that you read my blog and don't want anyone to publicly know that you do. Fair enough, enter anyway!
2- You've entered before and haven't won. Fair enough, maybe today's your lucky day.
3- You've entered before and HAVE won. Enter again, there's no shame! I can assure you that your odds of winning again are just as good.
4- You just don't have the time to win free crap. Well poo on you. Enter anyway.
5- You would feel guilty taking these prizes off my hands when I could keep them for myself. Bless your kind soul, I don't want this stuff. Please somebody take it!
Important, if you leave a comment and I don't know who you are, please leave an email address or twitter name so I can let you know that you won. There will be one winner of these 4 special prizes. The random drawing will take place this coming Sunday night, February 3rd. I will ship the winnings anywhere in the world for you!
Have fun.
I'm kind of cheating today. You see, here's the thing, I just got back from a weekend get-away with my hot wife. We went to Vegas, and each of us got to decide what we wanted to do each night.
My choice was to see Ben Folds Five for the first time. The concert was Friday night, and it was fantastic. If I had more time, I would go into detail. I've never heard a piano sound so loud and amazing. The show rocked, and I was in nerdy music bliss.
Saturday morning I woke up with a song from their new album stuck in my head. Hearing the song live gave me a new appreciation for it. Here it is, this is Michael Praytor, Five Years Later.
Before I play the song, I want to tell you that it's about a guy named Michael Praytor, who has no real significance in the singer's life- but the singer seems to run into him every five years, completely random and inexplicable.
There is this guy I used to work with at Wendy's. His name is Dustin. He's my Michael Praytor. I've run into him so many times, in the strangest places, and we always laugh about it when we see each other.
(The next time I run into Dustin, I'll take a picture and post it here)
OK- moving on.....
So, wifey poo really wanted to see The Beatles "Love" by Cirque du Soleil. The Beatles are sure neato, so of course I went. For me, I had to get used to what it might feel like to do acid (I've never done drugs) for the first 30 minutes of the show. But once I adjusted to the artificial "trip" the Soleil-ites were giving me, I had a jolly good time.
Not trying to sound trite, wow, The Beatles wrote some pretty incredible music and wow, some of those performers in Cirque du Soleil were incredible athletes and performers. The drunk guy behind me shouted through the whole show, but that is the only criticism I can give about the performance.
Sunday morning (fittingly) I woke up with a song by The Beatles that is (fittingly) about the circus.
Here's "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite."
Here's something interesting I came across in all my deep and intense web research I do.
This is the very poster that inspired John Lennon to write this song. Lyrically, you can see that he is quite literal with his inspiration. I never knew this before now, and I likey. You can read more about it here:
Above is a sign I saw in town. I may be the only one who finds this funny. Perhaps there is something I'm missing, but I read this as "If it's here, then it's here!"
Lastly, here is a picture of me and my sweetheart. We've been married 7 years now. I don't regret a single second and I'm happy as I look at this to see that we are starting to look older. Hopefully we've become more sophisticated as well. I love that she shares my passion for music and has an even stronger passion for tolerating me. But musically, what a fun weekend for me: Ben Folds Five and The Beatles. Awesome.
The more I listen to today's song, the more it grows on me. It's an unusual song for the Beatles- it sounds bluesy in a way, and is almost eight minutes long.
This is from "Abbey Road" which is my favorite Beatles' album. I've said this before, but if you have never listened to "Abbey Road" start to finish, alone with no distractions, now is the time. It showcases the Beatles' talent more than any of their other albums, especially each individual member of the band.
Here's the song:
I grew up on The Beatles. So did my wife. That's why our two children are named after Beatles' songs: Lucy and Jude. We were speculating about having another child for about half a second before we talked ourselves back to our senses. I never say never, but I doubt we will have more kids. This is unfortunate because there are so many other Beatles' song names that we could have used.
If Megan and I were The Duggar family (that's the family on reality TV who has 20 kids, or whatever) this is what we would have named our other kids, after Beatles' songs, of course:
Eleanor Rigby Cash
Robert Douglas Cash (From Dr. Robert, my father-in-law, Doug, is a Doctor)
Julia Jolene Cash (Julia is Lennon's mother, Jolene is MY mother)
Rita Bella Cash (Bella, is "Lovely" in Italian)
Maggie Mae Cash
Anna Anna Cash (I have a sister-in-law, Anna, so heck, we'd give her the song, and the sister's name)
Lady Madonna Cash
Martha Letha Cash (Megan's grandma Letha)
Maxwell Nicholas Cash (after my Dad)
Michelle Corinne Cash (Megan likes the middle name, and it's French.)
Penny Lane Cash
Pam Polythene Cash
Rocky Guy Cash (after my Grandpa Guy)
Sadie Cash (with all these girls, we'll let this one keep Cash as a middle name)
Here's the second song for the week that we will attempt to perform. I assure you all videos will be posted as soon as we have them ready. It's easier to do it this way and there is less pressure to throw them together this way. But as the title promises, "I will" have them done soon.
For now enjoy today's song "I Will" from The Beatles.
Don't know that there is much to say about this song, but here it is anyway. (I'm sure after you hear it you will undoubtedly decide that this is the BEST BEATLES SONG EVER!) (Do you ever wish there was a sarcasm font so people know when you're joking?)
I just read online that this song was written by Paul McCartney and performed and recorded solely by him. They were in experimentation mode, and weren't planning to use the song until George Harrison's girl said she liked it.
I thought Yoko Ono was the only girlfriend that had any say about what happens with the Beatles.
Since I love attention, and I'm pathetic and desparate to get it (i.e. this blog) I have a brilliant idea! I'm gonna make a honey pie! My wife is going to help me, and it's going to make me famous. And since I'm all over Blogger, Facebook, and Twitter already, you guys can put this pie and recipe we made up on Pinterest. Then I will take over the world, and once I do I will make this song the world national anthem. Here it goes,
BEATLES WILD HONEY PIE
recipe by (mostly) Megan and Brady Cash
In ignorant non cooking husband terms:
Use a pre-made pie crust
Place it in a pie tin
Use a fork and make the edges look neat
Take the pie crust and carefully cut out the silhouette of your favorite Beatle for the day. In our case today is Ringo.
Cook the pie crust and Beatle Silhouette independenly for 5 minutes at 450 degrees
In separate bowl, dissolve 4 tablespoons corn starch with 1 2/3 cup heavy cream
Stir in a 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk and 3 beaten egg yolks
Now add 1/4 cup creamed honey
Add 1/2 teaspoon flavoring or extract based on the Beatle of choice:
For John- Strawberry
For Paul- Lemon
For George- Almond
For Ringo- Lime (our choice today)
Cook everything on medium heat until bubbles.
Now add 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Insert filling into baked pie crust and place in fridge to chill for 2 hours.
After chilling, sprinkle sugar evenly over pie filling.
Broil until golden brown (cover the crusts with tin foil to avoid burning)
Place Ringo (or whoever's) face on top.
Decorate Ringo's face with regular honey- it looks great on the hair
Eat.
Here is our end result. Come over and try it if you'd like. It's totally good.
I want to publicly declare that I LOVE MEGAN CASH!
Here is the song that was stuck in my head this morning to prove it:
My wife has given up more than most women have to give up by marrying a doofus like me. Life is not easy for her, taking care of 4 little ones, and a colicky baby. I hope she knows I love her.
First thing this morning, at 5:50 A.M. our 2 month old baby woke up, and immediately this starts playing in my brain:
Funny, I thought the songs that came to me in the mornings were more random, but so far it appears that they are more relevent than I had initially thought. This is such a great song, by the way.
Our newborn has been colicky, and from the time I get home from work until his bedtime, he has to be held and bounced or he will cry. The other day my 4 year old came to me while I was watching the Jazz game. She had a loaf of bread, and asked me to open the bag and give her a piece of bread. She ran off, leaving me with the bag of bread. My wife started laughing at me when she noticed I was swaying and bouncing the loaf of bread. We're tired to say the least.
This is dedicated to anyone who has taken care of a newborn baby.
