Blogs are so passe and pretentious. Oh well, here's my blog about music that's stuck in my head when I wake up in the mornings along with adventures of the Cash family and wacky wacky crazy wacky shenanigans.

Dinner at Eight
9/28/2020
Here's one of my favorites from Rufus Wainwright's 2004 masterpiece record, "Want One"
Dinner at Eight is the final track of the album and it's about Rufus' dad, Loudon Wainwright, also a successful singer-songwriter. I went to see Rufus play a show in Vegas in 2005, and during that show he mentioned that he had been invited to a photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine along with his dad. When the shoot was over Rufus said something like "well are you so glad that I got you in that magazine again?" and it turned into a nasty fight between he and his dad.
"Why is it so, that I've always been the one who must go
That I've always been the one to want to flee
When in fact you were the one, long ago
In the drifting white snow, who left me"
I admire and respect the Wainwright family, not only for their artistry but for their honesty in song-writing. Rufus' parents divorced when he was young. I'm sure these lyrics sting like hell for his dad. Or even worse, the song that sister Martha Wainwright wrote about her dad titled "Bloody Mother F***** A*******" Honest and painful for their family, but makes for some good art.
Here's the song, heartbreaking and good, "Dinner at Eight"
Little Sister
6/30/19
Finishing off the month of June is one of my favorite singer-songwriters: Rufus Wainwright.
This one is from his 2004 album Want 2. It's the fourth track. It's called Little Sister.
It seems like when I saw Rufus Wainwright it concert, right around the time this album had been released, that he said this particular song was dedicated to all women, not just his own little sister.
This song demonstrated Wainwright's nearly perfect ability to combine pop music with classical. He's a master at the merging of the two genres.
Hope you enjoy this song.

Out of the Game
1/6/19
I've gotten behind, but I'm keeping mental notes of the songs stuck in my head on Sunday mornings. I'll try to catch up.
This one comes from Rufus Wainwright. It's the opening (and title!) track to his 2012 album. It's pretty good.
Here it is, try to enjoy the strange video featuring that one girl that Tim Burton casts all the time. I'm getting old and can't remember stuff. OH Helena Bonham Carter.
Neat neat neat. Did you like it?
Thanks
Brady

Go, or Go Ahead
Friends- I love this song, plain and simple.
Rufus Wainwright has sort of fell off the radar when it comes to popular music, as he has shifted his focus of enormous musical talent to the world of classical music. But more than a decade ago he released two albums, "Want One" and "Want Two" back to back (2004 & 2005) and they were just about some of the best rock/pop albums I had heard at the time.

Today's particular song comes from Want One and is the sixth track. It's called "Go, or Go Ahead" and it's effing amazing as far as songs go.
I've only seen Wainwright once in concert, in 2005, and before he played this song he explained that in the early 2000's he had become addicted to crystal meth, and during a particularly dangerous drug-induced high, he became blind and remained that way for several days.
When he came out of it, he regained his vision, got clean and never went back to the drug- the first song that emerged is this one. Wainwright's musicianship far outweighs his lyric-writing, so although the lyrics are cryptic, there's something powerful about the final composition. I hope you'll listen to it, here's "Go, or Go Ahead" by Rufus Wainwright.

The One You Love
I'm back. I'm thrilled to share the song stuck in my head today, "The One You Love" by Rufus Wainwright
Funny, I blogged about his sister Martha just last post. She is one of the back-up singers in this song. Now if we can get his father, Loudon Wainwright and his mother, Kate McGarrigle, then we'll have the whole family covered. Let's see if my subconscious allows it.
Anyway, I love this song. One thing that made me fall in love with my wife is that I could play her a song by Rufus Wainwright and she "got it," meaning she understood why the music is so cool and interesting. Rufus is a gifted musician, ranging from folk, to rock, to classical. This song is one of my favorites of his...
I'M AFRAID I HAVE A DISCLAIMER ON THIS SONG, there is an F-word! It happens right about 1:44 in the song. If you have extra sensitive ears, I would mute it from about 1:40-1:50 to be safe. I want this blog to be fun for everyone to read, so I hope this doesn't offend anyone.
For those of you offended by this, HOPEFULLY A CONTEST WILL MAKE UP FOR IT!
