The Format, as you may know, evolved into Fun. and likely would have enjoyed more mainstream success had they stuck it out.

Nothing terribly strange today,  just a good band called The Format and a song called "Sore Thumb"

It's almost too bad this is the song that is in my head, not that it's a bad song- just one of their less interesting.  If you haven't heard The Format, it's time to check them out.  They only released 2 albums, both are worth checking out for sure.
