I really don't listen to Italian artist Jovanotti all that much, but his dang music gets in my brain lots and lots.

And I really like the dude-- problem is that he's a mainstream artist in Italy and mainstream music has a beat-box/techno/remix feel to it.  I love Jovanotti for his versatility and he really does have some great music.  Being an Italian speaker, it's fun to understand the lyrics. 

This song is from 2011 album "Ora"  It's called SPINGO IL TEMPO AL MASSIMO.

Here's the song.  This is the kind of music I would frequently hear in the supermarkets when I lived in Italy as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I wasn't permitted to listen to "wordly" music during my two year stint in It-ly, so when I heard ANY music (as a music lover) I would take it, even if it wasn't my preferred genre, techno.

Bad Luck

Maybe about 10-12 years ago I kept hearing the name Neko Case come up as I talked about music with friends.  At first I thought that she was the same person as Nico (the 1960's German model-turned-singer who had a handful of hits in that era) and that I had just never heard her last name.  Not very often that you hear of a woman named Nico (Neko?).... in my world at least.



It didn't take me long to figure out that they were not the same person.  And while an occasional Neko Case song would come up, I was actually more familiar with Nico's music.  The only thing I knew about Ms Case was associated to her work with Canadian Supergroup (with a terrible name!) The New Pornographers.  (They are great!)

So--- why am I talked about Neko Case you ask?!?  WELL!  I've been listening to her you guys!  And one of her songs got stuck in my head.

This is from Case's latest album, 2018's "Hell-On"  The song is called Bad Luck.  I likey....

Wow, doing a little research, I just found out that Neko actually covered Nico in 2013!  What the what!??!


I tried to upload pictures of Nico and Neko and it didn't work.

Welcome to February and enjoy a song from the fantastically underrated band Big Star. 

The band released three albums in the early 70's, but it sounds like they had trouble finding success with record sales and getting along as a group.

Today's song comes from their second album, "Radio City" which was released in 1974.  It's track five and it's called "You Get What You Deserve"

The band went into a nearly 20 year hiatus and reunited for a few albums, lost a member or two (too lazy to look up the details) and they are indefinitely closed up for shop as of 2010.

This l'il lady they call Ingrid Michaelson is a favorite of my family's.  Consequently lots of her songs get stuck in my head.

Today's was no exception.  My son was sung this song at bedtime for many, many years.  And he still loves it.  I suppose I do to, in my own way.
